Coffee Anyone?
Did you hear the old story about the carrots, eggs, and coffee? There was a young woman experiencing difficulty in life. She went to her mom and told her that she was so tired of the struggle and fighting all the time to survive. Her mom saying nothing took her to the kitchen. She filled 3 pots with water and placed them on the burners. In the first she put in some raw carrots. In the second she placed some fresh eggs. The last one received some coffee grounds. She let them sit and watched as they started to boil.
After about 20 minutes the mother turned off the burners. She fished out the carrots and placed them in a bowl. She pulled out the eggs and placed them in a separate bowl. She finally poured some of the coffee into a cup. The wise mom then asked her daughter what she saw. The daughter impatient with all the waiting responded – "carrots, eggs, and coffee." Her mom brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots and she noted how soft they were. After pulling off the shell, she then asked her to feel the eggs and notice how hard they had become. Finally the mother asked her daughter to drink the coffee.
The wise mom then explained that all of these objects faced the same adversity: boiling water. Each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong however, after the trial it became soft and weak. The egg that had been so fragile was now hardened. The coffee beans were unique. They had changed the water.
I read a story about a one handed basketball player named Kevin Laue. When Laue was born the circulation in his left arm was cut off by the umbilical cord stunting its growth. He played basketball at Amador Valley High School in California. His senior year he broke his leg. After failing to receive any scholarships he enrolled in fork Union Military Academy. There he was discovered by Manhattan, a Division I school, and was offered a basketball scholarship! I wonder if Kevin drinks coffee.
