Twenty One!

Twenty one is a Fibonacci number, a Harshad number, a Motzkin number, a triangular number, and an octagonal number. (I would explain what each of these mean but I do not have the space.) Twenty one is the sum of the first six integers. (1+2+3+4+5+6=21) We live in the 21st century although I was very comfortable with the 20th. The 21 gun salute is the highest honor rendered to anyone. Twenty one is the minimum legal age in the United States. In many sporting events, it takes 21 points to win the game. Mike Eruzione, captain of the 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team, wore number 21. Twenty one has been a game show, several songs, four movies, and is the number needed to win in Black Jack. All in all I would say that 21 is a very important number.

Today, September 24, 2009, Lori and I celebrate twenty one years of marriage. One would think since "21" is so important the Twenty First Anniversary would be something great. Fifty years is golden, 25 years is silver – and 21years is - brass. Can you believe? We have survived the 7 year itch 3 times! Our children are at their zenith in cost to us yet they are too young to do anything for their old out of touch parents. (I know they will cost more in the future - just work with me.) We are at the stage in life when we really don’t have the time to stop and celebrate – and what we get is brass? Give me a break. At least last year was platinum. Figure that one out.

I wish a happy anniversary to the one that has made the last 21 years so good. She moved away from her home. She gives herself for her family. Her resume is our kids. Her portfolio is our home. Her mission statement is, "Can you not pick up your dirty clothes and put them in the hamper?" (Oops that was her morning statement!) Her mission is to be a loving daughter, an involved mother, faithful friend, and a terrific wife. Lori is gold! She deserves a salute. Will you settle for brass?

Happy Anniversary,
