What A Week!
This last week has been a whirlwind. It began oddly enough last Thursday morning as we got the girls up to church @ 4:30 AM to go on trek. Friday was Lori's birthday and her wonderful husband (That's me) had scheduled a wedding in Denison for that time. The young lady getting married was one of my girls when I preached there nearly 16 years ago. When she was three she could say the books of the Bible. Old and New Testament! I asked her one night if she would be willing to recite all the books for the church. She said yes! However, when I lifted her to the microphone she would not say a word. When I put her down and asked her why she was unwilling to try - she said, "My mom will not let me play with the microphone." Without the aid of amplification this young girl belted out all the books to perfection. It was one of my prouder moments in ministry. Her wedding reminded me that I am getting old.
After the wedding I wished Lori a happy birthday and left her and Caleb in Denison to travel to Dallas. I had a meeting beginning that Sunday. The church in Bardwell is doing well and it is a great place to be. I love the people. Sunday night began as usual, but I had a difficult time trying to preach. It is an unsettling feeling to know when you are not connecting with the audience. I knew it was bad, they knew it was bad, and I knew that they knew that it was bad. The rest of the week was better. (But I had set the bar real low.) Wednesday we had a large crowd and enjoyed homemade ice cream.
I also got to stay with my folks. This was a great blessing. Monday I worked at the farm, Tuesday I worked in the yard and Wednesday we got to go back to the farm to fix what I messed up on Monday. I worked for my mom and my dad. I will let you guess which one was the best to work for.
Tomorrow I will pick up Lori and Caleb. Can't wait to see you on Sunday! Oh yeah and my girls are getting back Sunday. What a week!
