How Is Your Memory?

Three older sisters lived together. One sister got up to go to bed, half way up the stairs she asked, "Was I going up or was I coming down?" One sister replied with a hint of aggravation, "You were going up to go to bed!" A second sister had gone into the kitchen to make her a bedtime snack. Once in the kitchen she hollered back to her sister, "What did I come in here for?" The sister responded again -this time even more annoyed than the last time, "You are in the kitchen to make yourself a sandwich before you go to bed!" Then the sister thought to herself, "I am so glad that I am not as forgetful as my two sisters are." Then she knocked on the wood of her end table for good luck. Hearing the knocking noise she then got up and went to the front door and asked, "Who is it?"

Memory is a good thing. In the book of Deuteronomy Moses inspired by the Spirit used "remember" sixteen times. He also warned Israel not to "forget" nine times. God gave them Feast to celebrate. Each feast is a reminder of God's activity with his people. He gave them daily sacrifices to keep things on the front burner everyday. In Joshua you always found a pile of rocks to remind us of the good and bad. They were called stones of remembrance. Moses warned them when they had eaten and are satisfied praise God for what he has given you. Do not forget the Lord your God or become proud. And like our three sisters Israel didn't do too well in the memory department.

Do we have trouble remembering? Does our country realize the sacrifice that so many faithful soldiers made so that we can enjoy peace and freedom? Do we continue to pray everyday for those in harm's way? Do we think of the families affected by war? Do we appreciate our blessings? What about church - Do we struggle to remember the one who died in our place? Did you know that every Sunday is Memorial Day? There will be a time we pause and remember His body and His blood. Did you notice the table? Engraved in the front is, "This do in remembrance of me." (By the way He is at the door knocking!)
