Reverse Mentoring

I believe we have neglected the ministry of mentoring. That is when the older, wiser, and more experienced Christian takes a disciple, (learner) under their wing. We can learn so much from those who have been there, done that, and have several T-shirts. Jesus said follow me. Our call is to make disciples! However, there are still the times when we are challenged and taught by our youth. How many wait until your children visit or grandchildren visit so that they can reset the clock on your old VHS, DVD, or DVR player? How many have pushed the wrong button on your cell phone and you had to have your teenager fix it? How many covered your ears when they tried to teach you how to use all the applications on your phone? You can call this reverse mentoring.

Be prepared Sunday to be challenged by our youth. We have 33 people including the college age and adults that will travel to St. Louis this summer to make a difference. They will support the ongoing efforts of the North City Church of Christ which started about 5 years ago with a mission to make a difference in the inner city. We will be conducting a VBS and also providing a hot meal for each child every night. We will help support the church by doing some projects in their building and grounds and supporting their teens in their youth program. We will also serve the community by doing several projects arranged by NCCOC based on the needs of the community. Our youth have been preparing for this trip for several months. They have already put in a lot of time and effort to prepare for this ministry opportunity. What an example for us!

Sunday we will have the opportunity to help our youth make a difference. First, we all need to pray that God will open doors for ministry. May God be glorified in the inner city. Second, we will have an opportunity to give some financial help to speed them on their way. Be prepared to be mentored - See you Sunday!
