The High Cost Of May
Have you noticed that May is an expensive month? Kids that have made it through 12 years of education want their combat pay. Moms, who do so much all year long, get their due for one afternoon. And next week we will have Mission Sunday when we will hear about our youth and their plans in St. Louis. That is why when my sensitive tooth became my painful tooth the other day I thought, "This is going to cost me." I was prepared for the worst when my dentist squeezed me into his busy schedule. However, I was not prepared when he told me the problem wasn't my tooth. He showed me that the real issue was my maxillary sinuses. I got a $4.00 prescription and a week later I was cured.
I wonder how many times I experience this when counseling. Sometimes people come in with their tooth hurting and yet the real issue is something else. I wonder how many times we address the tooth and never address the problem. I see it when I hear someone say, "They make me so angry!" I like to respond, "No. You are angry and looking for an excuse to show it!" You see even though your tooth hurts the problem is your maxillary sinuses. People tend to love that.
I thought I would escape the May cost curse until I arrived home from California. I walked into our house and felt the warm air blowing. We called the air conditioning man who actually showed up on a Saturday. He said that we had a leak in a Freon line in the wall of our house. He said a nail probably pierced the line during construction. I said that was six years ago! I asked him if this is why they had to service our AC every summer! He then told me that I must be an angry person and looking for a place to show it. I said, "No. It is just my maxillary sinuses."
