Tis the Season!
Somewhere in the Bible it must say that right after Thanksgiving is over you get the Christmas tree down from the attic. Well I was a little late. It was Monday when I wrestled the old box, awkwardly stuffed with the tree, down from the attic. I should have known it wasn't going to be easy this year. After we freed it from its duct tape bondage you would assume that it would reward us by spinning for joy and lighting the room. However, the spinning base refused to spin and two thirds of the lights refused to shine. It was a tree Charlie Brown would have been proud of.
Lori didn't actually verbalize, "If only you would have listened to me and got the tree down when I told you!" But, you could read that in her eyes. Then she sighed. You know the one that sounds like - "Of all the men in the world how did I get stuck with you!" Lori then went out in the night in search of the perfect tree.
Apparently all the good trees were sold during the weekend. Fortunately she found one that she liked at Sears but they were out of stock. She went online and the warehouse had one but they will not ship it to our zip code. I comforted my sad bride by assuring her that I could fix the old tree. That news brought tears to her eyes.
I failed to revive the old tree but I think my heroic effort gave Lori the energy to go out again and find the perfect tree. She did! It is up. Peace on earth. We held hands and watched how our proud tree spun and lit the room. It was magic. Lori broke the majestic silence by asking, "When are you going to put up the outside lights?" Tis the season!
