Church Ministries

Our ministries are designed to serve our family members and the community we live in. Ministries are also a great opportunity to serve.  It's important to be involved in the church family.  So chose whether you need the service or you need to serve.  Be an active part of God's family.

The following are a few of the many ministries University is involved in.
[Children's Ministry]  [Youth Ministry]  [Adult Education]  [Life Groups]
[
Men's Ministry]  [Women's Ministry]  [Senior Ministry]  [Widows Group]

CHILDREN'S MINISTRY

Children are very important here at University. We seek to provide different opportunities and experiences in which our children can learn and experience Jesus Christ. Our children are an active part of the family here at University.

Here are some of the events and opportunities that our children are involved in:

Children's Morning Worship (2 yrs. - 5th Grade): Each Sunday morning during our worship service we offer three additional worship services designed especially for children. The classes are divided into ages 2-4, kindergarten - 2nd grade, and 3rd grade - 5th grade.  This worship is designed to better instruct the children in their praise to God and gives their parents an opportunity to focus their attention in worship to God.  This is available each Sunday morning except for the last Sunday of each month.

Kid's Praise (2 yrs. - 5th Grade): Kids Praise meets during our Sunday Evening Worship Service twice a  month during the normal school year. This provides a unique opportunity for our children to have a special time together to sing and learn new songs. From time to time the Kid's Praise group will share what they have learned with the members of the University Family.

VBS: Another special time for our kids is taking part in our annual Vacation Bible School. This is a highlight of the Summer for many of our kids.

YOUTH MINISTRY

Our Youth program is designed to serve the 6th through 12th grade and is lead by Jason and Lauren Rogers.  This group participates in many activities through the year including area wide devotionals, regional youth rallies, Christian university programs, Vacation Bible School, regional community service programs, and mission trips, just to name a few.

ADULT EDUCATION

To help you grow in your walk with God, University offers adult Bible classes on Sundays and Wednesdays. As a visitor, you are welcome to "sit in" on any of our classes that are of  interest to you. You might choose a group composed solely of men or women, or perhaps you may feel more comfortable studying with those of a similar age range. You will find classes of just about every size; however each is firmly established in the teaching of God's Word: the Bible.

Most Adult Bible classes are designed to last for one "Quarter" (approximately 13 weeks). But, sometimes the material covered requires several quarters in succession. Some studies focus on specific parts of the Biblical text, while others examine topics using the teachings of the Word. On occasion, to illuminate the scriptures, a class may watch a Bible oriented video series, or a group might opt for a workbook as an additional aid.

It isn't surprising that, after studying the Scriptures together each week, some groups even schedule activities outside the classroom to provide fellowship opportunities for their members.

Our aim is for visitors and members alike to study God's Word for themselves and to find a group of people with whom they can study to further enhance their personal knowledge of the Scriptures.

LIFE GROUPS (A Small Group Just For You)

At University Church of Christ we want you to feel at home. And one thing that will help you feel comfortable is to be part of one of our Life Groups.

These Life Groups meet one Sunday evening a month, usually in someone's home, for a time of devotion and fellowship.

We believe this will give you a chance to build some friendships in a smaller group setting. These groups allow you to "connect" personally within the larger congregation.

We believe you will find being part of a Life Group will be one of the most rewarding decisions you have ever made and will quickly help you to feel at home.

However, there is always an anchor group that meets at the church building if you would rather meet there.

Life Groups always meet on the 2nd Sunday evening of the month, unless you are otherwise notified.

MEN'S MINISTRY

University's men participate in many areas of ministry.  They lead us in worship, teach classes and even cook in the kitchen.  Whether you have just retired or just started your life in Christ, University has a place for you.  Get involved with the talents you have been given and lets grow together as a family of God.

Men's Prayer Breakfast: Every Tuesday morning at 6:45am in the Family Center, University's men gather for coffee, doughnuts & prayer. These weekly prayer breakfasts wrap up about 7:30am. Make Tuesday morning a powerful part of your week by praying with your brothers in Christ!

WOMEN'S MINISTRY (A Special Women's Ministry)

University's Women's Ministry offers a network of encouragement, outreach, and opportunity.

In University's Women's Ministry, you'll find a place to glorify God and grow closer to Him as well as to others. Whether you are a teen, in your golden years, or someplace in between, a wide range of opportunities to get involved offers every woman a place to strengthen her Christian walk.

Tuesday Morning Ladies Bible Class: The Ladies class is a wonderful opportunity to enrich and increase your faith. The class is taught by our minister Jerry Hodge. Please join us on Tuesdays at 10:00am in the church Family Center for weekly lessons and a delicious monthly luncheon. Everyone looks forward to seeing you!

Love Bears: Love Bears is a ministry that provides hand-made bears to children in hospital emergency rooms to comfort them in traumatic experiences. We currently deliver bears to the Willis-Knighton Pierremont Emergency Room and the Day Surgery Department.

The University Church of Christ Love Bear Ministry group meets on Wednesday mornings at 10:00am in the church Fellowship Hall. During this time bears are traced, cut out, turned and stuffed. Much of the work is also done at home by a number of ladies doing various work, such as tracing, cutting, sewing, painting, and attaching ribbons and labels. Much of the material used for the Love Bears is donated.

The Love Bears is a nationwide ministry that was begun in 1991 in the memory of Martha Love and to honor her two sons, Andrew and Will Love.

Prayer Chain: Activated on a weekly basis, these women pray for specific needs or situations concerning our University family.

Special Food Needs: This ministry provides food for our families who have suffered illness or loss. We also serve those who may be experiencing a long-term food need.

Ladies Night Out: One Thursday evening a month, a participant opens her home so that Christian women can come together for food, fellowship, and fun. Get to know your sisters-in-Christ in a relaxed setting designed to promote encouragement and unity.

More areas of service include Prayer Sisters, Salad Supper, Supper for Six, Showers and Weddings, and Special Events.

SENIORS MINISTRY (Our 39ers Fellowship Group)

If you are 50 or over you are in for a real treat when the "39ers" group at University meets the second Thursday of each month.

"39ers" offers mature members an opportunity to meet together for a time of fellowship, food, and fun. Each month hosts and hostesses are chosen to arrange for the meeting the following month. The variety of events at these meetings is truly amazing. Some months there will be live entertainment, others it will be a meal with a particular theme. Often games are played such as dominoes, cards, etc.

The "39ers" also take day-trips to various places of interest. These trips range from a bus tour to see the holiday lights in a nearby town, to an occasional trip to a museum, restaurant, or some other point of interest.

The goal of this group is to allow people of this age to get to know each other better, and form deeper friendships. The "39ers" are a group that really likes to be together, and we believe that you will enjoy being part of this wonderful group of Christians.

UWSC - UNIVERSITY WIDOWS SERVING CHRIST

This group is made up of women who have lost their spouse and need encouragement and strong Christian friendships and a lot of joy and laughter.  These women enjoy meals together as well as trips to local events and road trips that may last several days.
