Senior Servants is a Senior Adult Ministry for everyone 60+ giving care TO seniors, growing spiritually through ministry WITH seniors, and providing a place to belong FOR seniors. This ministry encourages all seniors to remain active in life and service to God and seeks to provide opportunities for personal spiritual growth, involvement in meaningful acts of service, and build relationships among our seniors and other groups of all ages. We also want to honor the abilities of our seniors and their contributions to the ministry of the church and to provide support and organization in utilizing their talents in productive Christian service and outreach. Originally we considered the name, University’s Senior Servants, but chose instead, Senior Servants, because our vision for this ministry is not intended to be exclusively for University’s senior members, but ultimately to be a ministry that reaches out to and includes all seniors of the churches of Christ in the Shreveport/Bossier City and surrounding areas.

On the first Sunday of each month the Senior Servants meet together for a time of fellowship enjoying a lunch, discussing what’s happening within our group, planning future events, and occasionally listening to a guest speaker. This luncheon meeting, we call the Senior Servant Sunday Shindig (without the dancing) is the hub of our ministry. This meeting keeps our group informed, up-to-date, and provides opportunities for involvement.
As our name reflects, this group of seniors is about serving. A part of our purpose is to be involved in meaningful acts of service. The Senior Servants serve local school teachers, soldiers serving overseas, and work on bridging the gap with the younger generation. Last September we conducted our 1st Doughnut Drop-off. The Senior Servants dropped off a total of twelve dozen doughnuts at three area schools to express our appreciation for their service to the children of our community. More recently we collected various supplies, boxed them up, and shipped them to soldiers serving our country overseas. Last spring the Senior Servants also participated in the GAP (Generations Achieving Partnership). This is a ministry that seeks to build mentoring relationships between our seniors and youth. Serving God and others will continue to be a priority for our Senior Servants.

The Senior Servants are also on-the-go. This group has a blast going places and doing things together. Whether eating catfish at a local restaurant and seeing a show at The Strand, or going on a day trip for a nearby attraction, or even going on the road for a few days to attend the Church of Christ Weekend at Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO, this group loves being together and loves having fun!
One of our Senior Servants said, “Sixty is the new forty!” I love that positive attitude and zest for life. You have also heard it said, “Life begins at 60!” You are in some of the best years of your life. Remain active in it and continue to serve God with the gifts, talents, and abilities He has blessed you with. Are you 60 or over (or closer to it than you care to admit)? Then you’re invited to become a part of Senior Servants, a group where you’ll feel loved, accepted, encouraged, and valued.
Regular Events (seniors)
Monday's 11:30 am
Daily - Meals on Wheels
Monday-Thursday . University is a Delivery Station for Meals on Wheels. We will deliver eight meals a day to homebound seniors. The Caddo Council on Aging will bring the prepared meals to University before noon each day, then our team members will deliver those meals to the designated seniors. Each route should take less than 40 minutes. It is fun and rewarding to the volunteers!
